In “Konaseema Thugs,” director Brinda, who is well known for her choreographic work, pleasantly surprised us. The audience wonders if Brinda truly directed this movie because of the admirable way she carried out her vision. Congratulations to her for providing a captivating and exciting experience.
Despite having certain obvious components, Shibu Thameens’ plot nonetheless manages to hold the audience’s attention because to its masterfully written script. As the star and primary screen presence, Hridhu Haroon excels. A standout moment in the film is how he portrays a lover who goes to tremendous extent for his love interest.
Bobby Simha’s performances don’t require an introduction. He performs a potent deed once more as he stands with Hridhu the entire movie. With his perfect comic timing, Munishkanth adds a new dimension to this violent action thriller, bringing much-needed chuckles throughout the dramatic scenes. RK Suresh and Sarath Appani both perform admirably in their respective parts.
The dancing and action moments are to be commended for their realistic representation. The creative team behind these exciting sequences did a fantastic job. The background music and cinematography make the movie more intense and suspenseful, creating a mesmerising visual experience. The dubbing effort enhances the taste of Telugu culture.
Although there are some interesting parts of the tale, it does have elements in common with previous jail escape films, making it fairly predictable. It should be noted that “Konaseema Thugs” is an authorised version of the 2018 Malayalam popular song “Swathandrayam Ardarathriyil” (Freedom At Midnight).
The film’s female protagonist, Anaswara Rajan, has a stunning appearance on screen, but her role is not given much attention. There should have been greater focus on their romantic and sentimental interactions with Hridhu Haroon.
Compared to the first half, the movie’s second half loses some of its drive. Given the genre, “Konaseema Thugs” may have explored more intense feelings, heightening the total effect. The main protagonists’ plan to escape from jail is hampered by the film’s inadequate presentation of their rich and intriguing backstories.
The action film director Brinda merits praise for showcasing her flexibility. Even though this is only her second film as a filmmaker, she controls “Konaseema Thugs” with skill. The background soundtrack by Sam CS and the cinematography by Priyesh Guruswamy both greatly add to the film’s interest level.
Special mention should go to stunt performers Phoenix Prabhu and Rajasekar for their fierce and realistic action sequences that keep viewers captivated to the screen. The art crew and costume designers did a fantastic job of improving the visual appeal, and the production values are remarkable. Although certain sequences in the second half may have been cut for a tighter plot, Praveen Antony’s editing is respectable. The movie gains from having a concise running duration.
To sum up, “Konaseema Thugs” is a bloated action thriller that works because of the excellent performances by Hridhu Haroon, Bobby Simha, and Munishkanth as well as the technical brilliance of the production. Fans of criminal thrillers will find the movie to be fascinating despite a few pointless scenes in the second half. It might not, nevertheless, appeal to everyone’s sensibilities.
