Virupaksha Movie Review:
Virupaksha is a horror film directed by Karthik Varma Dandu, with a screenplay penned by Sukumar. The story follows Surya (Sai Dharam Tej), who heads to his mother’s village, Rudravanam, and falls in love with Nandini (Samyuktha). However, the village holds a dark secret that leads to a chain of events and multiple deaths.
Plot:
The village’s residents still use ancient books to determine what is right and wrong while the movie is set in the 1990s, which breeds terrible superstition. Surya travels to the village of his mother, where Modamamba Thalli jatara preparations are underway. He meets Nandini, the daughter of Harischandra Prasad, the village sarpanch (Rajeev Kanakala), and develops feelings for her.
While it appears that the two couples in the village are in love, the past unexpectedly reappears with a series of tragic occurrences that result in many fatalities. Surya looks for the underlying reason behind the deaths.
Review:
Karl Varma With Virupaksha, the director Dandu successfully executes a scary movie. He states up front that there is a lot of gore in this movie, so it can be tough for you to watch if you have a squeamish disposition. There is no disputing that the director succeeds, even though some scenes in the movie should have been tighter.
First Half:
-The first half of the Virupaksha movie is fairly risqué, with the exception of the scene where it diverts attention from the death to the romance. The dialogues give it a more emotional tone than it actually has. The story’s framework is laid out in the first part, which also shows you how evil choices can be made out of superstition and fear.
Second Half:
The Virupaksha movie changes in the second half. While the movie excels when it concentrates on the current plot, some of the scenes could feel tedious. But if you pay great attention, you’ll see that the movie kept dropping hints for you to put the pieces together. Would a better climax have been possible? Sure. But without ramming you with explanations, everything just seems to make sense.
Characters and Acting:
Samyuktha and Sai Dharam Tej put up a respectable performance. For the most part, Sai Dharam Tej’s role calls for him to remain laid back, and he does it admirably. She has the opportunity to act thanks to Samyuktha’s role, and she excels at it. Sai Chand, Brahmaji, Ajay, Rajeev Kanakala, and Syamala are few actors that do a good job in their parts. But in the big picture, Sunil’s persona seems contradictory and superfluous.
Technical Aspects:
Both the background music by Ajaneesh Loknath and the sound design are excellent. The majority of the scenes’ vibe is really set by it. Karthik’s direction and Shamdat’s cinematography are both excellent. The fact that the Virupaksha movie doesn’t just rely on jump scares to keep you interested is its strongest feature.
Conclusion:
There is a fine line between endorsing superstition and telling tales of those who have drowned in it. You can wonder if the producers are toeing that line at some points in Virupaksha. But for the majority of the movie, you’re entranced enough to succumb to the vision, which is a success.
In conclusion, the well-made horror movie Virupaksha captivates you with its oppressive atmosphere. For that, the crew deserves praise.
